Seto ware refers to ceramics produced in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, and its surrounding region. With more than a thousand years of history, Seto is one of Japan’s most celebrated pottery traditions and is recognized as one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan, alongside Tokoname, Shigaraki, Echizen, Tamba, and Bizen.
The character of each piece is shaped by subtle variations in the kiln and the movement of the flame during firing. As a result, no two pieces are exactly alike, each possessing its own distinctive tones, textures, and expression.
